There is this thing about expectations. Recent few movies have yet to live up to it. Planet 51. Bodyguards and assassins. Both just did not live up to it. As for Holmes, on the whole I wouldn't say it's a bad movie but neither was it particularly impressive. There is some good witty humor. There is also good chemistry between Robert and Jude, so much so I thought they would kiss at some point in the show. One thing, I thought the flow was a bit haphazard.
I am not a massive fan of Sherlock Holmes so I can't really comment about how well are the characters depicted. In my impression though, I thought they are are definitely more charismatic and charming than the Holmes and Watson that I know. It's almost like putting the metro into Holmes and Watson. Some great coats and shirts, two suave metro-sexual and witty dark humor. I don't think you can go quite wrong. A pity Rachel's air time was a tad short though.
